Sun and Fun

The next few days are a pretty much more of the same – here is a quick synopsis of the time we spent on the black sand beaches of Perissa.

May 25 -
• Tried to get the hotel for 2 more nights – no luck so had to move hotels
• Rented a scooter and motored on over to Red Beach – so named for the high iron ore content in the sand, a secluded beach that you really want to have to find.
• Scooter past the ruins at Akitori, which are closed indefinitely
• Make our way towards Kamira beach area
• Stop at the Volcan Wine Museum, a family run museum of wine making, machinery, and the family business complete with animatronics mannequins stomping the grapes for your viewing pleasure – sample some local wines including a really good dessert wine made from dried red and white grapes.
• Make our way to the beach in time for the sunset.
• Eat pastries at a wonderful bakery with the nicest owner who gave us free local pastries
• Watch Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull at the Villaggio Theater in Kamira, lots of fun except for the finale being curiously cut at the gruesome “villain gets their comeuppance” section.
• Come back for a late meal surrounded by American students who argue over splitting a 47 Euro bill for their dinner, and gape in amazement as the owner of the restaurant sits down and figures out the bill for them…”but remember we all drank the water, so that should be split”.

May 26 -

• Move to our new hotel where we are exposed to the minimalist bathroom approach of a sink, toilet and shower in one tiled room (and while you could use all bathroom accoutrements at the same time, it is not advisable).
• Go to the youth hostel to use the Internet for some planning on our next few weeks of travel and encounter the most annoying girl ever, the type of 20ish year old that makes you think that there is no hope for the future. She was running the internet spot, but instead of doing her job she listed to non stop tinny sounding renditions of traditional Greek music from You Tube at top volume on her computer while also talking on her cell phone with friends and playing / singing the music to them via cell.
• Run out of there and head to sit on the beach for 4 more hours to erase her from our day
• Dinner at Grandmas pita shop

May 27 -

• Hang out on the beach near the Corner Café for hours on end and watch kids diving off of the cliffs and a Chinese couple take wedding photos as the sun sets.
• Late dinner of pizza and chicken parmesan at the NY NY near the Perissa Water Park

I continue to be jealous. Even if you have to put up with annoying 20ish girls. You still get to relax at the beach for HOURS!!
