We rode the bus into town and made our way to Natasa’s apartment, a great flat in the heart of Zagreb. We sat around for a while catching up and chatting about the oddity of being in Natasa's childhood home in another country, we then headed out on a drizzly tour of the town. Natasa walked us past the old mosque which is now an art gallery, towards the old square, which was set up with flat screen TVs and tents crowded with soccer fans all dressed from head to tow in red and white checkerboard – ready to root on Croatia as they play against Germany.
We stopped into a little cafĂ© near the old town and had some pastries and coffee - yellow cream topped with whipped cream, apple strudel, and walnut cake all super yummy. We continued to walk around, near the innumerable shoe shops around town, the opera house, museum, past Natasa’s high school and back to the apartment for a dinner of green salad, smokies chips (which are like cheesy poofs with a hint of peanut butter), cherries, and beer. The craziness in town doesn’t stop until 4 am as Croatia wins game 1 in style.
