Cape Town

After getting on the plane to Johannesburg, we proceed to get fed 3 times, stuff settle in to watch the movies which for some reason started in the middle (still There Will Be Blood and I Am Legend were good second time around), and fly 10 hours to Johannesburg. The time went quite quickly, and we arrived with 50 minutes to make it through customs, passport control, pick up our luggage, and get to the Kulala Airlines just in time for Ulises to get teased by the gate agent and for us to get our boarding passes. All in all, we did this with 35 minutes to spare….can you believe it?

We hopped on our 3rd flight in 24 hours ad arrived in Cape Town at 3PM… Welcome to South Africa!

We had booked a room at a cool budget conscious art hotel on Long Street called Daddy Long Legs, we lucked out and got checked into room 501, which was decorated and inspired by all things denim (501 Jeans) and Americana, this was our window shade - a little slice of kitschy home.

All the rooms at Daddy Long Legs were decorated and designed by an artist, so they have such rooms as the Photo Booth Room, You Are Here, Palimpset, Emergency Room, and the Fresh Air Room. The idea being that during your stay you would move around and try out different rooms and get a little taste of each of the artists.

We headed out to take a quick walk around, walking down Long Street which is a busy, fun, and eclectic street made up of 20 something’s, professionals, and innumerable parking attendants in yellow vests who guide you as you back up into your space and keep an eye on your car while you go about your business. We tried to make our way down to the port but got turned around, and decided to head back towards the hotel, stopping along the way to have a coffee and some hummus, and a bad margarita in the first of 8 Latin inspired restaurants that we would visit.

Back at the hotel we sat down and had our welcome drink (one of the nice perks at Daddy Long Legs) and then headed back out to eat some dinner at Mojitos (#2) and go to Irish Pub to watch Turkey get beaten by Germany in the Semi Finals of the Euro Cup. Sorry Turkey, you played admirably.
